12 PLANETOLOGY The largest and most massive dwarf planet of the inner solar system has been closely photogra- phed for the first time by an unmanned space- craft which entered into its orbit. The map- ping of its surface and the chemical and spectrometric surveys will allow to characterize the conditions and processes that were active dur- ing the first million years of our planetary system.
